Climb a gold-trimmed staircase to emerge at Peaches, a world of pink perfection. The cartel of owners behind the cocktail venue – brothers Sam and Tom Peasnell and Adam Goldblatt – have had success with Dexter and Takeaway Pizza on the city’s northside as well as Peaches' downstairs neighbour, Cheek.
Architecture practice Pierce Widera has created a playful space with elevated booths – upholstered in plush blush fabric – tables topped with terrazzo, pink and cream floor tiles that are laid in an asymmetrical pattern, and pendant globes, which hang from the ceiling in a representation of peaches on a tree.
The only other colour comes from chartreuse-hued velvet stools, an underlit green-veined onyx bar top, and philodendron leaves in vases on the tables. A mirror ball over the bar reflects rays of pink light. The cocktail list is divided into music genres, including Funk, Disco and 90s Pop, which includes the thematically appropriate It’s Britney Bitch, a pink concoction of sloe gin, dry vermouth, basil and raspberries. There’s also craft beer, minimal intervention wine, and a small selection of snacks like fried chicken sandwiches.
Head up another floor to find a white, modernist rooftop bar, where simple spritzes and cocktails are served in the sunshine.
